Diary of a Madman is performing at the High Fest International Performing Arts Festival in Yerevan, Armenia, October 2014.

An adaptation of Gogol’s short story, it is a Living Pictures and Cegin production, performed by Robert Bowman.

Biomechanics workshop, Macau, China

Michael Chekhov states that the actor must love her audience, yet often we ignore the audience, or are afraid of them. But what if we were to really work with the actual audience as an active part of our practice?

This workshop explores how to bridge the seeming divide between the imagined world of the play and the real world of the audience. By integrating the vocal work of Kristin Linklater and the acting techniques of Michael Chekhov, Sinéad, in collaboration with Daron Oram (head of voice on BA Acting CDT, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), will explore how to find greater vocal and physical presence in performance.

In this workshop we’ll ask who the audience are, how do we feel about them, how do we connect with them without losing a deep sense of truth and connection to the play. We will work through a range of integrated vocal, physical and acting skills which will then be applied to scene work. Please read Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, any edition. Pick a character you’d like to work on and bring a copy of it if you have one (photocopies will also be available). It is not necessary to be off book.
